Content: Knock knock. Who's there? Control freak. Control freak who? We at Mitchell's Fish Huts received a registered letter today, March 1, 2004. Basically, our team of pack dog lawyers quickly deduced it was not a legal letter, as it lacked the signature of someone who had gone to law school, and that its context was not well versed in the law. We find this derogatory and defamatory, and all those nasty things, and consider it an insult to our intelligence. However, since it did not intend to damage our reputations unjustly, only, seemingly, our sense of the sender's good faith and taste, we understand it was not a slanderous letter. It would be stupid to think that, of course it would. In the interests of free speech, we have taken this venue to exercise our First Amendment right to publish, and express our opinion of, the letter we received today. Please remember, that this is a seasonal leisure business, and everything on this website is for entertainment purposes, so we are doubly indemnified from any (direct or inferred) slander. We do not intend anything on this site to harm the reputation of any person on Earth, or anyone who thinks they've been abducted by little green people. Wooooooooo. Let me explain what started the controversy. Our real webmaster, who really makes that word seem less of a non sequitur, found it quite funny that anybody would install an anti-spam bot on a humble fish hut operator's website. Finding such humour inherently funny, and not finding it to, in any way, reflect upon the character, honesty, talent, ability, integrity or looks of the person who may or may not have put it there, he went and found a way to share the humour with everyone who knows about meta flaming. Who could get hurt, right? Well. Nobody said things went easy when nerds and humour mix. Anyway, our webmaster happened to be in town today, having an outstanding day on the ice, catching 8 pound whitefish every twenty minutes. I was feeling good, like I always do thinking about how we at Mitchell's Fish Huts deliver the authentic ice fishing experience, when this letter arrived. You know, I felt a little skitterish at first read, being very concerned about respecting people's reputations, and never having the intention of damaging their reputation in my heart or as a stated motive for any act. Truth is, it almost sounded like a couple of the words in the thing might be found in a legal dictionary, probably pre-law, maybe an old Grade 13 text or something. Longer story shorter, I needed to get a better opinion. I immediately dispatched my central legal staff to the fish hut where our webmaster just happened to be enjoying a day of fishing on Lake Simcoe, and at the same time I put Global on alert, in case we would have to bring in the UK for paralegal. That way the expenses fall under a depreciated account that we use to buy company jets and rocks bands and stuff. Global informed me that I might have to bring the Wiz Kid from South Africa off a genocide case, but I didn't want to be unprepared to deal with the disgruntled web guy from Beaverton. I put in the call and had a plane waiting in Zimbabwe. Well, didn't it turn out that our webmaster also happened to have an intricate knowledge of copyright, patent and slander laws? Seems when he's not making sense of former Vice President Gore's Internet, he protests big stuff and writes books and builds training equipment and outfits national organisations and things. Versatile? Hey, would I trust just any guy I know with my website? Anyway, I'll let you read the letter, then I'll come back and tell you more about the day.
